Washi Winter Wonderland

Merry Little Labels Washi Card

Washi Winter Wonderland

The Colorful Seasons Bundle is definitely one of my favorite things from the Annual Catalog.  I decided to use the winter themed die to create an unusual combination of snowflakes using Washi tape.  Paired up with the Merry Little Labels Bundle, which includes the stamp set and matching punch, the little sentiment makes a wonderful winter card.

Most people really don’t know what to do with Washi tape other than to hold dies in place on your big shot. It really can be a versatile element in scrapbooking and card making.  It is a simple way to add pattern and color.  But did you know that you can stick it down to a piece of whisper white card stock in any pattern you like, and then place your die over it and cut it on the big shot?

The result is a die cut with a thicker texture and some fun color to boot! Try it out! I set my washi snowflakes on a background of more washi tape as well as stamped snowflakes and rhinestones.

Fun Color Palette

These fun colors were pul right from the Basics Pack 3 Washi Tape in the Stampin’ UP annual catalog.  It had a lot of great patterns and they reminded me of winter time.

Father Christmas Tag

Father Christmas Tag

Annual Catalog

It seems that when Stampin’ UP’s holiday catalog goes live we, as demonstrators, tend to forget the great resource that the annual catalog offers all year.  This Father Christmas tag features products from the annual catalog and goes together rather quickly so you can make several.

Traditional Color Palette

This nostalgic tag features the traditional colors that we are used to seeing at Christmas time.  I have also colored the image with Crushed Curry, Chocolate Chip and Blushing Bride.

Father_Christmas

To color the Santa image, stamp him using Black Stazon ink on Whisper White card stock.  Press the lid of your stamp pad several times while it is closed to get ink on the inside of the lid.  Then using your aqua painter, fill in the colors that you like to give Santa a watercolored look.

Be Merry DSP

Be Merry DSP by Stampin' UP

The traditional colors of the Be Merry DSP by Stampin’ UP add to the Christmas cheer of the tag.  To get the layered look of the tag, I used the Lots of Labels framelits.  Santa was cut out with the smaller size one, the DSP was the next largest and finally, the largest was cut from Cherry Cobbler card stock.

I stamped the sentiment in Cherry Cobbler ink and cut it out with the smallest of the framelits and then sponged the edges with Cherry Cobbler ink.

To finish the tag, I punched a hole in the top with a standard notebook hole punch.  I then looped an 8 inch piece of Double Stitched 1/4″ ribbon through the hole.

Don’t forget that through October 31st, the Be Merry DSP is part of the Buy 3 Get 1 Free DSP sale.  So you can stock up before Christmas on these great patterns.

Santa Paws Towering Tree

Pets

“Animals are such agreeable friends ― they ask no questions, they pass no criticisms.” ― George Eliot

Animals hold a special place in our hearts.  When I lost my family dog, Lucky, in 2014, I wasn’t sure that I would ever get another one.  It was so difficult watching him get old.  The last two years of his life were spent sleeping and turning his nose up at the special diet that he had to eat for his bad kidneys.  I don’t blame him.  That food smelled awful.

My children had grown up with him.  We got him when my youngest son was just three.  He was a curious and very hard to train puppy.  At one point, he ate a hole in the drywall! Westhighland terriors are stubborn. But gosh, how we loved that dog.  Lucky lived to be fifteen.  Saying goodbye was really difficult.

Flash forward to January 2017.  My husband and I decided to take the plunge and get a new puppy.  We named him Buddy.  He is the cutest ball of energy!  There is nothing better than this little ball of fur snuggling on your lap or chasing one of his toys.

Do you have a special animal in your life?

Santa Paws

This towering tree of pets in the holiday catalog really caught my eye.  It just reminds me of all the joy our furry friends give us.

Santa Paws Stamp Set

For this card, I chose a base of Tranquil Tide highlighted by the panel of Lemon Lime Twist embossed with the Winter Wonder Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  The tree image was stamped using Stazon ink and colored with the Many Marvelous Markers.  The sentiment was stamped in Tranquil Tide ink and fussy cut with paper snips.  To top off the towering tree of pets, I chose a felt bow in the Tranquil Tide color from the 2017-2019 In Color Bitty Bows.

Let me know what you think of my card in the comments section.  Cheers to our pets!

Emboss Resist Technique

The background of this card uses the emboss resist technique with the Sheet Music background stamp.  The image is stamped using Versamark ink and gold embossing powder.  Using sponges, various ink colors were daubed in a diagonal pattern across the cardstock.

The sentiments were also stamped in Versamark and heat embossed with gold embossing powder.

A Special Gift

This gift duo will be a hit as a hostess gift or for a special friend.  The candle was purchased from Bath and Body Works. I sprinkled the green mica flakes in the cellophane bag for some glitz and then tied it closed with the Real Red 3/4 inch Stitched Edge Ribbon.

The Santa shaker card is filled with the white mica flakes and is popped up with the foam strips from the annual catalog.

The Christmas Greetings thinlit die with the jolly sentiment adds the right touch of glitter to the Detailed Santa thinlit die.  It is framed with a banner and a doily background.  I cut my whisper white cardstock to 4″x4″ to make sure when I cut out the Santa that I had enough edge for the foam adhesive strips.

I recommend using the Precision Base Plate with this die because of the detail.  Also, use the Multipurpose Liquid Glue to adhere the Santa to the window sheet.  The trick to not making a mess is to let the glue dry for a few minutes so it is just tacky and then stick it to the window sheet.  It won’t ooze all over then.

Santa’s eyes and nose are made with the Rhinestone Basic Jewels colored with a black and red Sharpie marker. Finish the envelope off with a liner cut from the Candy Cane Lane DSP.

Inside the Cardjollysanta5-1

The inside of he card is stamped with a sentiment from the Peace this Christmas stamp set.  Stamp the sentiment in Real Red ink.  It is set off with a strip of leftover DSP from the Candy Cane Lane DSP pack and a layer of crumb cake cardstock behind it.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project.  Please leave me a comment. I love hearing from you!

Swirly Snowman CASE

Swirly snowman with Santa hat

Pinterest

Every crafter knows that the best source on the Internet for new ideas is Pinterest.  I have seen so many versions of the Swirly Bird snowman that I decided to “CASE” it.  “CASE”ing, according to Stampin’ UP means Copy and Share Everything. To me, it means taking an basic idea and adding your own flair to it.

The snowman body is cut out on the Big Shot using the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits and the precision base plate.  His carrot nose is created with a scrap of Pumpkin Pie paper and the larger wing shape from the same thinlit set.

So many of the versions that I saw on Pinterest had no arms or face.  I couldn’t help but put the Santa hat on his head with the Jolly Hat punch!  He looks great with his “coal” eyes, mouth and buttons.  To add the black color to the rhinestones, simply color them with a black Sharpie marker.  His arms are the Tree Builder Punch‘s trunk punched out in Early Espresso.  His scarf is a knotted ribbon attached with a glue dot.  (This ribbon was from last year’s Holiday Catalog, but there is a Real Red ribbon that you can easily substitute in the Annual catalog)

My swirly snowman looks fabulous on a background of Soft Sky embossed with the Seaside embossing folder from the Annual Catalog. Since there is no sentiment on the outside of the card, I added it to the inside of the card.

Fab Friday 97

Fab Friday Challenge 97 image

A Vintage Feel

These happy Holly Berries have a vintage feel to them.  A color palette with a vintage feel seemed appropriate. They are featured in Fab Friday’s blog challenge for this week.   A few of the new products in the Holiday Catalog from Stampin’ UP are also featured on this card.  Here is the link to Fab Friday Challenge #97.

New Technique

This muted image of the holly is actually a new technique to me but has been around on YouTube for awhile.  It is the dryer sheet technique.  After stamping your image, cover the image with glue from a glue stick and smooth out a used dryer sheet over the entire piece.  Then cover the image in dazzling diamonds glitter, shaking off the excess.  Set it aside to dry completely.  Then cut it out with a framelit on your Big Shot.

Background

The background paper is from the Candy Cane Lane DSP pack. It also has an embossed background done in Real Red using the Holly Textured Impressions Embossing folder. I hope you enjoyed today’s project.  Thanks for visiting my blog and you can click any item in the supply list to go to my online store!

Christmas Magic Locomotive

Locomotive in Christmas Magic Stamp Set by Stampin' UP 2016

A Little Christmas Magic

This sweet little train is just one of the nostalgic images in the new Christmas Magic stamp set found in Stampin’ UP’s new holiday catalog.  It also comes with three lovely sentiments to make your holiday cards unique and wonderful.  The images in the stamp set lend themselves to coloring in with markers or watercoloring.

Cable Knit Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder

I wanted to make a point to note that this is a new product from Stampin’ UP.  It is not a regular embossing folder that we are all used to because it is a lot thicker.  When you get ready to run your paper through the Big Shot with this folder, be sure to spritz it with water first.  This will help the paper soften a bit so it won’t crack when you run it through the Big Shot.  I included the Stampin’ Spritzer in my supply list.

Also, because of the thickness of the folder , you only need one plate as a top plate and your regular platform. It is a really neat effect because the texture feels more three dimensional.  I am sure that this will not be the only one of these that we see from Stampin’ UP.

Case The Designer

The Global Design Project always has some fun ideas to try out.  This card by Teneale Williams gave me the inspiration for the layout of this card although I tried it out with some deeper shades of blue and green.  This year’s In colors are some of my new favorites. Here is the link to the Global Design Project Challenge:

Merriest Wishes Bundle

When I saw this bundle in the Holiday Catalog, it went on my wishlist as a top priority.  I love the framelits that match the stamp set because I love to make my own gift tags for Christmas every year.  It also makes lovely Christmas cards as well.

merriest_wishes_bundle

I paired it with the Pine Bough Embossing Folder to add a little more texture to the card base.  The stamped snowflakes add a little pizzazz and a punch of color.

Directions

First you want to start with a Emerald Envy card base of 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″. Run the card base through the Big Shot using the Pine Bough Embossing Folder so that the pine image will be on the left side of the card.

Cut a piece of Whisper White card stock to 3″ x 4 1/4″. Stamp the snow image on the right side of the card stock, once at the top and once at the bottom in Dapper Denim ink.

Cut out the deer tag using the Merry Tags framelit die on the Big Shot, once from the Emerald Envy card stock, once from the Dazzling Diamonds glitter paper and once from the Chocolate Chip card stock.  Punch out a 2 inch circle with the circle punch.

Using the Emerald Envy tag as the base, remove the green deer with your paper snips. Snip off the tab at the top of the tag.

From the Dazzling Diamonds tag, remove the deer, trees and snow.  On the Chocolate Chip tag, remove the deer.  img_1291-1

Glue the Dazzling Diamond trees behind the Emerald Envy trees.  Glue the Dazzling Diamond snow to the front of the Emerald Envy tag. Glue the entire Emerald Envy tag to the Dapper Denim circle centering it in the middle.  Glue the Chocolate Chip deer to his proper place.

Wrap a piece of the ribbon around the left edge of the snow stamped on the white card stock.  Fasten the deer tag in the middle with dimensionals. Add a ribbon bow to the top of the deer tag. Attach it to the front of the card with dimensionals.

Stamp the Merriest Wishes sentiment in Dapper Denim ink on whisper white card stock. Punch it out with the Duet Banner punch.  Punch an additional banner out of Emerald Envy card stock and glue to the back of the banner.  Please note that when you punch out your sentiment, it will be upside down.  It follows the curve of the tag that way.  Attach the banner to the card front with dimensionals.

img_1290-1

I added a scrap of Dapper denim paper to the inside of the card as well as a stamped sentiment from the Merriest Wishes stamp set.  If you liked my card, and want to make one yourself, visit my online store by clicking any of the supplies below.
